Eddie

Benjamin

Rotating between an arsenal of instruments with punchy proficiency and singing with spotlight-grabbing swagger, Eddie Benjamin brings kaleidoscopic color to popular music. Whether nimbly slapping out a fleet-fingered bass groove or belting on an arena stage, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer channels fresh fire through a classic approach.

Eddie Benjamin harks back to a live, instrument-laden sound that’s equally heavy on classic songwriting, groove, hair-raising atmosphere, and feeling. His music appeals to the head, the hips, and the heart all at once. With fellow artists such as Justin Bieber and more in his corner, the Australia-born and Los Angeles-based artist perfects this signature sound on his 2022 debut album, Weatherman [Vol. 1 Records/Epic Records], a body of work that comes to life at the crossroads between timeless handcrafted virtuosity and modern appeal.

“All of the songs are pretty life-shifting experiences I’ve gone through,” he reveals. “I wanted to tap into actual meaning within the art. This body of work represented the most monumental and meaningful moments for me, and I just had to get them out. It was painful. It was exciting. It felt like I’d grown up. It was definitely an interesting and beautiful process.”

Hailing from the oceanside community of Bondi Beach, he was immersed in music from birth. His father composed for films and toured worldwide, while his mother and sisters danced professionally. However, the moment Eddie heard Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition,” he became obsessed. “At that point, I really started to study music,” he recalls. After watching Prince perform with a bass in hand, he knew, “This is what I need to do.”

Barely thirteen years old, he wowed local jazz haunts and headlined a weekly residency at a nightclub before developing an international following by posting viral covers on social media. Sia became an avowed fan, and Eddie traded Australia for Los Angeles in 2019. Soon after, he found himself in the studio as a collaborator with not only Sia, but also names as diverse as Meghan Trainor, Ryan Tedder, Shawn Mendes, Cordae, and the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire.

In 2021, he properly introduced his solo style with the Emotional EP, anchored by the singles “Diamond Eyes” [feat. Sia] and “Speechless.” Inciting tastemaker applause, People christened him one of The Talented Emerging Artists Making Their Mark on the Musical Landscape in 2021” and promised he will leave you ‘Speechless’.”  WWD wrote, ‘Emotional’ showcases his musical range and smooth vocal quality.” In an extensive profile, GQ Australia praised his approach to sonics, exclaiming that "changing the way a generation appreciates music is a mammoth undertaking. But if anyone has the charisma, talent and drive capable of making it happen, it’s this rising star from Sydney.” FLAUNT hailed him as your favorite artist’s favorite artist” while Ones To Watch proclaimed “Eddie Benjamin can quite literally do it all.”  Bieber backed that up and attested, Eddie is the future,” and invited him along as a support act on the massive 2022 Justice World Tour . In addition, he covered magazines such as Wonderland. Magazine, BASIC Magazine, and Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore, and has received attention from the likes of Rolling Stone AustraliaPaper Magazine, Interview Magazine, Esquire Aus, TMRW Magazine, GOAT’s The Greatest, and more.
